What should I wear?

You can go nude or wear clothing in the infrared sauna pod. Men typically wear workout or swim trunks; women typically wear workout shorts and a tank top or sports bra. Going nude vs. wearing this body wrap will not alter the effectiveness of your sauna session. 

How should I prepare for an infrared sauna session?

Drink plenty of water - at least 24 ounces - prior to your session. It is important to stay well hydrated before and after your infrared sauna session. Wear loose clothing to change into after the completion of your session. 

How long is a session? How often can I use the sauna?

Sessions are 30-minutes with 5-10 allotted to change your clothes before session and to cool off and get dressed after your session. Please be mindful that appointments may be scheduled directly after your session and to monitor time on the sauna clock.


Most people use the sauna 3-4 times a week, but it is safe to use every day. 

What does the sauna feel like?

Infrared heat is very gentle.  The experience is similar to lying in the sun on a warm day and feeling the heat radiate to the core of your body. FAR infrared waves penetrate 1-3 inches below the skins surface to heat the body. 


For the first 10 minutes, you feel warmth surrounding you as well as heat from The Solopad® . Halfway through your session you will begin to slowly sweat and towards the end of the session a full body sweat. You may lower the pod or fully exit the pod at any time if you begin to feel to warm or lightheaded. 

What is the temperature of the sauna?

Unlike traditional (hot rock or steam) saunas–which operate in excess of 200°F–infrared heat has the benefit of being effective at a more comfortable operating temperature of 100°-150°F.  At Melt Sauna Studio, we suggest beginners start at a level 7, a temperature of 130°F. We can adjust this temperature either higher or lower to every person's individual needs.

What if I get too hot?

Each infrared sauna is a Solo Pod for individual use located in a private room. If you become too hot, you can simply push the top dome section down to cool off the upper part of your body or you can get out of the pod entirely. 


We also provide cold towels and water if you become dehydrated, dizzy or uncomfortable.

Can I get a massage before or after I use the sauna?

Yes, our sister company Tranquility WellSPA is located directly next door to MELT. We can schedule all of their services, including massage, in conjunction with your MELT session.

Can I shower after my infrared sauna session?

Yes, we have private showers available if you have an obligation following your appointment or if you feel the need to shower. It is not necessary to shower directly after your session as your body is still experiencing the benefits of infrared therapy for up to an hour after your session.

Can children use the sauna?

The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands and the inability to regulate body temperatures by sweating. 


Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at a lower temperature and for no more than 15-minutes at a time. Remember to keep them hydrated even if they do not appear to be sweating. 


Children under 8 are not permitted to use the sauna.

Can I use the sauna if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Please consult with your own physician before using infrared saunas while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Does infrared technology interfere with implants (metal, silicone, etc.)?

Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Please consult your physician prior to using an infrared sauna. 

Is it safe for any medical condition?

At MELT we use Sunlighten Infrared Solo System saunas. Please review a full list of contraindications provided by the Sunlighten manufacturer and consult your physician before using an infrared sauna.
